Visual Communication (WWU DSGN 220) Spring 2019

Western Washington University Design 220 Spring 2019

The following represents some of my best works from Design 220 which is also known as Visual communication. We started from the ground up talking about how to think about drawing how to think about improving to drawing old stuff, new products, Architecture, cars, plants, you name it. I hope you enjoy all of my hard work leading up to stronger design principles with layout, line weight and hierarchy.
Old products
New products, with focus on line weight and clean lines
Studying orthographic layout and text elements, I redesigned the Wrigley packaging.
Rediscovering perspective, how far could I take the basics?
Deep dive into interior and exterior architecture, still using simple one and two point perspective but here I try to master it.
Short break where we talk about circles and how to use them in correspondence with perspective and introduce shading, slowly.
Cars, cars and more cars. I learned to like drawing cars, they become simple after drawing enough of them.
This was an interesting week, we drew plants in order to learn pattern and texture. then we had our first instance of creating themes and logos.
Animals were a challenge for me to draw, I pushed through it but could still use a lot more practice with their forms. We have another instance of creating a logo at the end. I had to redraw a lot from this section.
I apologize for the stretching working on a fix. In any case this was my most comfortable week, as I absolutely love drawing people.
This is the first of the hierarchy projects, the marker is a lot more brown in the scan, but in any case it is a perfect example of all the skills I gained from this class. The project was designed so that we made a three page spread of an "old" culture and then another for a new culture. I decided to research Philippians culture since I had known nothing about it yet had many Philippine friends.
My idea for the "new" culture is internet culture since I think we can all agree the culture and what people become accustomed too online is very different. It is also interesting in observing how the internet effects every day life and form new culture even when we are not directly interacting with the internet. This is not meant to be negative so much as an observation of the way things are.
This was the last project, design characters, props and a setting. I feel like I could have connected things a bit more/ give them context. I feel I will redo this project sometime.
Thank you for looking through this project it is by far one of my proudest moments of an artist thus far to be able to achieve this range. I am using this class as a jumping off point into more professional design work.
